Senior Scientist

Position Summary
The Senior Scientist works within AdvR’s Technology group to expand AdvR’s technical capabilities by leading innovation around waveguide fabrication, evaluation, and/or packaging. As a part of the Technology group, the Senior Scientist will contribute to the execution of the AdvR technology roadmap by conceptualizing, developing, and leading R&D programs involving nonlinear optics and electro-optic modulation. This position is expected to serve as a local expert, providing technical guidance to the delivery group, and solving complex problems independently and as part of a team.

Key Responsibilities
• Identify novel ideas and use-cases for nonlinear components and pursue funding when appropriate
• Advance AdvR’s technical capability consistent with technology and product roadmaps
• Perform as a Principal Investigator on internal and external programs.
• Develop and execute experimental techniques to characterize waveguide-based devices
• Contribute to internal and external reports with trustable data and defendable conclusions.
• Independently generate trustworthy data to inform technical decisions.
• Provide technical feedback to the Technology and Delivery teams
• Support the sales team through technical customer interactions, when appropriate
• Additional responsibilities may be assigned as business needs evolve, consistent with the scope of the role
Required Qualifications
• Advanced degree in Physics, Engineering or related field
• 5+ Years demonstrated experience in an optics or photonics R&D setting
• Strong experimental and/or theoretical background with optical waveguides and nonlinear optics
• Demonstrated expertise related to waveguide fabrication, nonlinear optics, electro-optic modulation, periodic poling, and/or RF photonics
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to communicate with experts and nonexperts
• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
• Due to the nature of the work and applicable regulations, this position requires U.S. citizenship
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience writing proposals and running federally funded programs
• Proficiency in modeling optical systems
• Demonstrated experience with instrumentation control via Python or similar
• Applications-based knowledge of nonlinear optics in quantum systems
• Knowledge of quantum optics, quantum light characterization techniques, and photon entanglement generation
• Experience designing, characterizing, and/or fabricating RF coplanar waveguides
• Proficiency with the design and characterization of electro-optic waveguide-based devices
