Optical Assembly Technician

AdvR, located in Bozeman, MT, designs, fabricates, and characterizes optical waveguide-based components in a variety of nonlinear substrates including lithium niobate and KTP. Our devices serve a variety of industries including defense, sensing and quantum information science. At AdvR, we perform a significant mix of R&D and production work to support our customers. Much of that work requires optical and electrical assembly of waveguide-based components. This assembly entails polishing, inspection, fiber alignment, optical characterization, electronic characterization, and quality assurance. AdvR is seeking an optical assembly technician to join the production team and help with many of these processes. This work is very hands-on and requires significant attention to detail and dexterity. Most work will be performed in an optics, electronics, or chemistry laboratory, and may include some cleanroom work.
Responsibilities:
• Polishing and inspection of fiber-optic and waveguide facets
• Optical alignment and characterization of fiber optics and waveguides
• Soldering and testing of electronic components
• Device characterization for frequency conversion and phase modulation
• Fulfill customer orders with help from fabrication and design team
• Communication of problems and successes to peers and supervisor
• Perform measurements and communicate results to product development team
Required Qualifications:
• US Citizen
• Basic knowledge of optics and/or photonic components
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions in a laboratory setting
• High degree of dexterity for performing delicate, hands-on work
• Attention to detail in critical processing areas
• Ability to stand for long periods, often in a darkened optics lab
Desired Qualifications:
• Hands-on polishing experience
• Microscope experience
• 2+ years working with optical systems
• Associates or higher degree in optics or science related field
• Demonstrated capability aligning fiber optic components and/or lasers
• Familiarity with electro-optic modulation and/or frequency conversion processes
• Experience writing and/or following work instructions for standard processes
• Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Products including PPT, Excel, and Word
